Interventional Studies in Humans with Omega-3 PUFA and Heart Rate Variability Measurements
Cardiac autonomic control is important in the pathogenesis of sudden cardiac death (SCD). Increased vagal
activity is considered protective against SCD whereas sympathetic activity favors the development of cardiac
arrhythmias. The modulation of autonomic control and a change in vagal tone and/or sympathetic tone may
therefore be of major importance for the prevention of SCD.
